What happens there

At the USC: a ticket, the wniosek, the opłata, issuance — frequently the same day. Polish archivists are allies of whoever arrives prepared — and patient with descendants coming back for their roots.

• Złoty for fees and reproductions; a spending cap in writing.
• Plan B: a diocesan archive? a neighbouring USC? the record may be in Ukraine/Belarus/Lithuania — knowing that beforehand avoids impossible promises.

The proof to demand

A photo of the odpis or the reproduction, the sygnatura of the collection consulted, time and place — and the technical account: volumes checked, periods covered, variants tested, what the archivist suggested.
