The modern document is the personbevis — the population register's extract, issued by the Skatteverket in purpose-based variants (there are dozens of types, including 'for use abroad'), free, ordered online or by phone, and shipped even abroad. The key is the personnummer (the Swedish personal number); without it, name + date + parish solve the search.

The 1991 frontier (and the Church's books)
Before 1991, the register IS ecclesiastical: the kyrkoböcker (parish books) with births/baptisms, marriages, deaths and the husförhörslängder — the annual household censuses the Church kept and which are genealogy's paradise (the whole family, year by year, address by address). The Riksarkivet digitised and opened everything: since 2018, online access is free.
