How to file a document in Mexico
Filing the Mexican way is passing through the oficialía de partes — the bodies' intake window — and leaving with the acuse de recibo: your copy stamped with date, time and folio. The ritual is sibling to the Brazilian and the Argentine one; the vocabulary changes, the principle never.
Where filing happens
- The body's oficialía de partes (the state civil registry, the ayuntamiento, the secretarías): two copies, one comes back with the sello de recibido.
- Correos de México with acuse: the formal postal route — it works, with the usual Latin timelines.
- State and federal procedure portals: digital entry with an electronic folio, growing but uneven between states.
The folio and the acuse
The folio (entry number) governs the tracking; the stamped acuse de recibo is the proof. Always bring two copies — the Mexican window stamps yours with the naturalness of someone who has done it forever. Photograph on the spot: thermal paper and weak stamps vanish with time.
When people are needed
Originals checked, pagos de derechos (the fees paid at the bank or the body's cashier BEFORE the procedure — the receipt accompanies the application), deadlines and the conversation that unblocks. The bearer brings the copies, the payment done, the carta poder when acting for another — and written instructions on what to accept.
The proof
