How to request a certificate at an Indian registrar
The Indian request combines the new (state portals and the CRS that issue online) with the eternal (the municipal counter, the agent who knows the clerk, the affidavit that supplies what the book lacks). The method: identify the exact municipality, try the digital, and activate the right human when the digital runs out.
The digital first
The CRS portal (and the state ones — Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra have good systems) issues certificates of digitised records with QR verification — for recent births, the request from Brazil may simply work: search, online fee, PDF. Test before any logistics.
The data kit
- Name (with the transliterations — the same name comes out of Hindi/Tamil/Konkani in several Latin forms).
- Exact date and PLACE: the municipality/panchayat — municipal India does not forgive vagueness.
- Parents' names; the hospital when known (urban records index by it).
- The purpose and the format — and for Goa: the conservatória and the book, the Portuguese way.
