Shipping documents safely from Belgium to Brazil

3 min read · King Hands practical guide

The final Belgian route starts with a question that can end it: does the recipient accept the electronic apostille? If yes, the 'shipment' is a verifiable e-mail. If not, the Belgian physical flow is short and civilised — the SPF in Brussels, reliable bpost, couriers with a hub in Liège.

The digital fork

E-apostille accepted: a digital extract + the SPF's electronic apostille = a verifiable PDF at the destination, minimal cost, a timeline of days, zero physical crossing. E-apostille refused: the classic — paper, a physical apostille, an envelope. The question to the recipient BEFORE anything defines which corridor you pay for.

The physical flow

  • International registered bpost — reliable: acceptable, 2-4 weeks.
  • Courier (DHL — the European hub in Liège! —, UPS, FedEx): 2-5 days: the standard for proceedings.
  • A bearer via Brussels/Amsterdam/Paris: the diaspora circulates through the neighbouring hubs.

The package

A rigid envelope, inner plastic, the complete Brazilian address with postal code and country code, the declaration “documents personnels / persoonlijke documenten, sans valeur commerciale”. The usual standard, in two languages out of Belgian politeness.

If it goes missing

The central bank reissues in days and for almost nothing; the e-apostille, when applicable, eliminates the risk entirely. The Belgian corridor is among those that punish bad luck the least — and even so: digitise and track, on principle.

Frequently asked questions

How does the destination verify the e-apostille?+

Through the SPF's electronic register — the PDF carries the online verification elements, in the Hague e-APP standard. It is the modernity Brazil also practises in issuance.

Translation: which language do I budget?+

Each act's language — French and/or Dutch. The modern multilingual spares it; the historical is defined by the place of the event.
