How to get a Belgian certificate without travelling
Belgium quietly pulled off one of Europe's best digitisations: since 2019, civil-status acts live in a central bank (the BAEC/DABS), any commune issues extracts of any act — and the Belgian apostille went ELECTRONIC, issued digitally by the foreign affairs ministry. The central acts bank
The BAEC (Banque des Actes de l'État Civil / DABS in Dutch) centralised the records: a Bruges act comes out at a Brussels commune, and citizens with Belgian credentials download it online. For foreigners without credentials, the order goes to the commune — by e-mail or form — which consults the central bank and issues.
