How to get a Saudi certificate without travelling

4 min read · King Hands practical guide

Saudi Arabia changed eras twice in a few years: Absher (the kingdom's digital platform) digitised the civil registry, and the country joined the HAGUE in December 2022 — the consular chain became the MOFA's apostille. The corridor: certificate from the Ahwal Madaniyah → apostille → courier from Riyadh or Jeddah → sworn Arabic translation in Brazil.

The Ahwal Madaniyah and Absher

The Saudi civil registry (Ahwal Madaniyah, under the interior ministry) issues through the Absher platform — the logged-in citizen solves online what used to be a counter. The expatriate registers the events (children born in the kingdom) in the same system via the iqama; the Brazilian community in Riyadh and Jeddah knows the rite.

Hague since 2022

The Saudi apostille comes from the MOFA — in person or through the kingdom's digital channels. The end of the double chain shortened the corridor by weeks: whoever still follows old guides with 'consular legalisation' is reading yesterday's kingdom.

The typical route

Certificate via Absher (the logged-in holder) or an executor with a power of attorney (wakala) → MOFA apostille → courier (3-6 days) → sworn Arabic translation in Brazil (available). For Brazilians who worked in the kingdom: the events registered via iqama come out of the same system — the history is not lost with departure.

Heads up

Absher requires the holder's login (Absher Individuals) or the wakala rite for third parties — drawn up at Saudi notaries or consulates. And the Arabic-Latin transliteration follows the passport: check that the certificate mirrors the travel document's spelling before apostilling.

Frequently asked questions

I worked in the kingdom and came back — does my history exist?+

The system keeps it by the numbers (iqama/border number) — the executor with the wakala recovers certificates of events registered in the family's Saudi era.

The Saudi consulate in Brazil?+

It authenticates and guides — issuance is territorial via Absher/Ahwal. The kingdom's rite is digital-first.
