How to collect a document already issued in India
The Indian collection is municipal and human: the registrar's window, the authorization letter for third parties, the stamp checked — and then the chain (state → MEA) that admits no shortcuts. Checking the transliterations BEFORE the chain saves redoing it whole.
Who can collect
The requester; the bearer with an authorization letter + IDs (Anglo-Indian pragmatism) — and for formal acts, the complete power of attorney. The municipal counter checks in the place's style: with a stamp, a register and the signature in the outgoing book.
The transliteration check
The name comes out of the record in the transliteration of the era's clerk — and the Brazilian chain needs to match. An error noticed at the counter: a local correction; noticed after the apostille: the whole chain again. Check name, parents, dates and the seal BEFORE the first state stamp.
The MEA centres
The federal apostille operates through outsourced collection centres in the big cities — delivery, fee, collection in days. The bearer brings the document ALREADY authenticated by the state; the centre skips no steps.
The mission's design
Municipality (days to weeks) → state capital (authentication) → MEA centre (apostille) → courier. In an efficient state, two weeks; in a slow one, months. The executor of the right place — and with Indian patience — is the corridor.
Frequently asked questions
Does the authorization letter need a notary?+
For collecting, the simple one with IDs usually serves; formal acts ask for the notarised power of attorney. The place defines — the prior phone call saves the trip.
Can I send directly to the MEA centre?+
Without the state authentication, no — the chain is sequential. The skipped step is the Indian corridor's classic mistake.
