Shipping documents safely from Spain to Brazil
Getting the certificación was the hard part; do not lose it in the crossing. The Spain→Brazil leg is routine and safe when three things happen in order: apostille, copy, tracking.
Before shipping: apostille and scanner
The apostille is Spanish and comes before the envelope — the body varies with the document (civil-registry documents are usually apostilled via the Ministry of Justice's designated bodies; notarial ones, by the notarial colleges). Confirm your case's counter when issuing. And digitise everything, apostille included: the PDF advances the process at destination and documents what travelled.
The shipping options
- Correo ordinario — no, for originals.
- Correos registered international — trackable, 2-5 weeks: the acceptable minimum.
- Courier (DHL/UPS/FedEx/SEUR international) — days, full tracking, insurance: the standard for proceeding documents.
- A trusted bearer on a direct flight — Madrid-São Paulo has a daily air bridge; when someone exists, it is unbeatable.
The package
A rigid envelope, plastic inside, the complete destination address with postal code and phone with country code, the declaration “documentos personales, sin valor comercial”. Documents pay no tax on entry; the right declaration avoids a verification hold.
If it goes missing
The record remains at the Registro Civil: a new certificación (free!), a new apostille, a new shipment. A Spanish loss hurts the wallet less than any neighbour's — it hurts the calendar, especially if it involves a new cita. One more argument for multiple copies at the first issuance.
