How to get an Iranian certificate without travelling
Iran has one of the most solid civil registries in the region: the Sabt-e Ahval (the national registration organisation) has issued records since 1918, and the SHENASNAMEH — the civil identity booklet that accompanies an Iranian for life — is the system's mother document. Outside The Hague: the Iranian MFA chain plus the Brazilian embassy in Tehran (active — Brazil-Iran relations are old) closes it. The Sabt-e Ahval and the shenasnameh
The shenasnameh records birth, marriages, children and death in the same booklet — a civil biography in one document. The solar calendar
Iran uses the SOLAR hijri calendar (not the Arabic lunar one!): the year 1404 began in March 2025 — every Persian date calls for a noted conversion. The classic mistake is confusing it with the lunar one; a professional sworn translation converts it with the dual date.
The typical route
Certificate/extract via an executor with a vakalatname (the Persian power of attorney — consular for those abroad) → the MFA chain → the Brazilian embassy in Tehran → courier (5-8 days, on the routes the sanctions allow) → the Persian translation in Brazil (rare but existing translators — the design confirms it beforehand).
The sanctions complicate the money, not the document: paying fees in Iran from abroad requires the local executor with an advance (escrow reimburses at the milestone) — international cards do not work. And a Persian sworn translation in Brazil is rare: confirm the translator BEFORE shipping the document.
